Young Researchers’ Colloquium for First Time Authors

This mini-track is dedicated to young students who are at the beginning of their scientific research career. The track welcomes papers from undergarduate and graduate students (BA, MA, PhD candidates) with an interest in business administration or in economics.

Alexandra Ciucu is a PhD student at the Doctoral School of Cybernetics and Economic Statistics and a research assistant at the Institute for Economic Forecasting of the Romanian Academy. She is also a member of the Romanian Regional Science Association, and implicitly of the European Regional Science Association. Her PhD thesis addresses the transition to a green economy and sustainable development. She performs her teaching activity both at the Faculty of Cybernetics, Statistics and Economic Informatics where she teaches subjects such as Basics of Operational Research, Quantitative Microeconomics or Basics of Economic Cybernetics, and at the Faculty of Administration and Business of the University of Bucharest where she teaches Economic Statistics. Alongside her teaching responsibilities, Alexandra made significant contributions to research by publishing papers in prestigious journals and proceedings both nationally and internationally.

Geambasu Maria Cristina is a senior data analyst at Europanel Romania, a researcher at BEDSL and a fourth-year PhD student at Bucharest University of Economic Studies. With over 7 years of experience in data manipulation and data analysis she has become an expert in SAS, R, machine learning, and advanced analytics. Her main research aims to identify key determinants of informality and estimate the size of the shadow economy at a regional level. Other research interests include studying the link between informality and digitalization and analyzing patterns of undeclared work. Beyond research, Cristina has over 3 years of teaching experience in subjects such as Time Series and Statistics.

Ioana Bîrlan is an Associate Lecturer at the Bucharest University of Economic Studies (ASE), teaching within the Faculty of Cybernetics, Statistics and Economic Informatics (CSIE) and the Faculty of Business Administration (FABIZ). She is also a researcher in the Business Economics Data Science Lab (BEDSL) and a PhD student at the Doctoral School of Cybernetics and Statistics. Her expertise lies at the intersection of artificial intelligence, econometrics, and sustainability, with a particular focus on ESG metrics and AI governance. Her research also examines ethical risks and greenwashing in ESG practices. She is actively involved as a researcher in international projects, including Accountable Governance and Responsible Innovation in Artificial Intelligence and Implementing the EU Methane Emission Regulation (I-MER) in Romania and Czechia.
