Henry Horng-Shing Lu is the Dean of Biomedical Artificial Intelligence Academy and Director for Department of Artificial Intelligence in Medicine, Kaohsiung Medical University (KMU); Deputy Superintendent in KMU Chung-Ho Memorial Hospital, the Distinguished Professor in the Institute of Statistics, Institute of Data Science and Engineering, Institute of Artificial Intelligence Innovation at National Yang Ming Chiao Tung (NYCU) University that has been formed by the merge of National Yang Ming University (NYMU) and National Chiao Tung University (NCTU), Hsinchu, Taiwan. He is also the Adjunct Professor in the Department of Statistics and Data Science, Cornell University, Ithaca, NY. He is the elected member of International Statistical Institute (ISI), Principal Fellow of Higher Education Academy (PFHEA) and IEEE Senior Member. He has received the Outstanding Research Award from the Ministry of Science and Technology, Taiwan. He has served as the Dean for College of Science and Vice President of Academic Affairs in National Chiao Tung University. He received his Ph.D. degree in Statistics from Cornell University in 1994, and his B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from National Taiwan University in 1986. His research interests include statistics, image science, bioinformatics, data science, machine learning and artificial intelligence. He analyzes different types of data by developing statistical methodologies for machine learning with the power of statistical inference and computation algorithms. The research results have been published in a wide spectrum of journals and conferences. He co-edited the Handbook of Statistical Bioinformatics and Handbook of Big Data Analytics published by Springer in 2011, 2022 and 2018.
